The White House is looking at relaxing encryption protections currently in place by giving government backdoor access to user data.
Obviously, if the White House supports relaxed privacy measures, this won’t bode well for any internet user. Similarly, support from President Obama would go a long way to strengthening individual protections.
A petition to encourage strong encryption is waiting for you to add your name. Although I doubt that this will have any impact on Washington’s decision to decrease privacy protection, I think that any measure is worth time and attention.
We demand privacy, security, and integrity for our communications and systems. As a public, we should be confident that the services we use haven’t been weakened or compromised by government mandate or pressure. No legislation, executive order, or private agreement with the government should undermine our rights.
So, please join me in supporting this endeavor.
