There are some major concerns about crime in today’s fast-paced, independent world. As a parent, I’m “overly protective” of my kids’ safety, especially their safety when they’re out of my presence. That’s why, when a colleague introduced me to the Life360 Family Locator app, I was eager to try it.

The premise of the app is simple: track your location, allow “family members” to contact you and receive updates regarding your current location. Using your GPS, family members can “ping” your location.

The term “family member” is rather general, and can be any one of your contacts.

Once they’re added to the program (they need to accept the invite), you can see their location, send them a message, and “check in” notifying them of your well-being.

If you’re worried about “big brother” tracking you, this isn’t your app. If you want to keep decent tabs on your family members, here you go. The app also features the ability to locate nearby hospitals, police departments and fire stations.
